Rd 3 Queensland Raceway

27th-29th June 2014

After a real struggle at Rd 2 at Mallala, a huge effort was made to turn up at Qld Raceway with a fresh looking and performing Ducati 848 and try and erase the bad memories of last year, when my car was broken into and laptop stolen and motor blew up in Race 1 on Sunday. Alas the Queensland Raceway gods still refuse to smile on me and it was a very tough weekend.

Arrived at the track late Thursday afternoon and unloaded and setup pit bay.

Friday Morning and it was freezing literally -1c at 6am, got the bike down to scrutineering and found a problem with the viscosity of the fork oil and the forks had become dangerously stiff, which was a real mystery as the same fork oil was perfect last year-strange!!

The decision was made to remove the forks and remove the Agip oil and replace with Ohlins, we missed the first practice as a result, keen to get on with it I got out for the 2nd practice session but was hampered by a badly slipping clutch, removed oil from bike and removed R/H crankcase cover and checked clutch pack, got it back together just in time to get out for 3rd practice session, to check out clutch and front suspension which was still not compliant enough and strangely not using its usual amount of stroke. Nevertheless I was getting faster and was only a second off my best time at QR but still not happy with the front end feel of the bike or the amount of travel or more to the point the lack of travel it was using (about 15mm less than normal)

Keepin’ positive with a V-Twin Grin !
