NORTH COAST V-TWINS

Celebrating 30 Years in Business

Owner & Founder

Ashley Beaton

My passion for V-Twin motorcycles started when I was a teenager. I remember leaving a picture theatre in Gloucester, my home town, and one of the local lads had his new Ducati 750GT parked at the front doors of the theatre. As my friends and I were leaving the GT burst into life with both booming Conti Mufflers shooting there magnificent note straight up the stairs to where we were standing leaving an impression on my soul only a musician would understand.

I started working for my family in 2001. Forced into the role by being young, unemployed and undecided with what I wanted to do, Ashley (who I occasionally refer to as Dad) gave me no choice but to start answering phones for him.

30 Years is just shy of my life time. In that time my parents and their ever-growing incredible team of staff have built a name that has been etched into the Australian motorcycle industry.

“Happy 30th North Coast V-Twins! A superb shop with so much knowledge. From spare parts and riding gear to sales the staff here are the smartest in the land. After customer care is 2nd to none as well. Once you purchase a bike you feel like you are in the family because it is a family! I’ve purchased 3 different bikes through V-twins and have been extremely happy with every one. Looking forward to the next 30 years! Cheers.”

“I started road racing 30 years ago and have raced every year after that and raced a Ducati every one of those years. It was very shortly after I began racing, I was at Lakeside and I came across a fast D grader on a White 600 Ducati Pantah. It was Ashley, it was going to be the first of many of our track battles but also the start of a friendship that has had plenty of adventures with many Ducati’s involved.
All of my Ducati’s (that have come directly through NC V-TWINS) were bought new and became winning race bikes with a lot of help from Doc Downie and Ashley. Started with the 94 900ss, then came the S4 Monster, 999S replaced the Monster and then the mighty 1098S. Next was the 848, it was actually supposed to stay a road bike but ended up the fastest Ducati I owned after Doc and a 1040 kit got together. Recently it’s been a bit of historic Racing with the back to the future Ducati TTF1 replica and yep Doc and Ashley have been involved in that too.
It’s been a hell of a ride these last 30 years with Ashley and NC V-TWINS, and I can’t believe how fast it’s gone. But one thing that both Ashley and I still have and is that VTWIN Grin.
Great effort Beato and team.” – Mick Johnston

“One story I remember that I will relate to you that may not be suitable but I remember when negotiating with Ash over the purchase of the Anniversary Road King we had been doing a fair bit of toing and froing over the deal so I went to Coffs to do a deal. I recall walking into Dad’s office and saying to him I know this is going to hurt me when I get the price so I produced a jar of Vaseline, sat it on the desk and asked Ash if he could use it on me so it didn’t hurt so much. There was a great laugh we then shook hands and the deal was done.

I have purchased many vehicles over my time and nowhere has ever come close the level of service I received from NCVT. When I was looking for these photo’s I came across a letter I sent to Ash after picking up a new bike, it’s a bit corny but I feel it says it all.

To all the NCVT team, congratulations on 30 years in business, my first dealing was in 1998 when I purchased a road king. The service I have received and the attitude of the whole team has never altered, it is a pleasure to do business with NCVT. Congratulations once again and I feel sure the company will continue to succeed into the future.”

I got the job here at V-Twins when we first moved to Coffs Harbour, when my friend Steve – who had worked for Peter Stevens in Melbourne as a Dealer Rep – volunteered my help for the Open Day in 2005.

“2002, I was riding my Honda blackbird past v-twins on a Saturday afternoon and notice the shop was open so I stopped and called in and met this block called Ashley. Got talking and mentioned that I had seen a nice blue Harley at Morgan and wicker on the Gold Coast a couple of weeks earlier. Jokingly I said I would be nice to own one.

A couple of weeks later I receive a call from this Ashley fellow telling me that THE BLUE HARLEY was now at the shop awaiting its new owner me. I stutter and splutter ‘for me?’, I explained I still had payment on the other bike. No problems, we take care of that, come on down and we can talk. And so began a fantastic relationship between this fellow called Ashley and his lovely family, V-Twins, and the HOG CLUB.” – Bryan Felton

I started working for North Coast Ducati in 1992, the business had 3 owners , Ashley Beaton, Don Adams and Rob McLauchlan. It was situated in the back of Beatons Home Appliances (which is now the spare parts area). At that point I was the only full time employee and the stock level consisted of a, second hand Ducati Darmah, a couple of helmets and around $2000- worth of spare parts.

Hi Beato,

30 years just like that.

I recall a bunch of Ducati enthusiasts finding us when we rode into Coffs on a mike Hailwood mille and 600 Pantah circa 1986-7? A few years later went for a ride on the Oxley where I ( 750 F1)  was following you on a back 900SS bevel (with high pipes?) through a switch back. The bevel dug in on the right side and it looked like you wouldn’t make the corner. The bike was deftly picked up, piloted around the LEFT side of a white road edge marker onto the dirt back then back onto the tar in time to make the next left.

I thought the “boys got talent”. Many riders would have frozen, braked and subsequently run off the road. I think we all realised after a while that we had better and safer on the race track!! Years later found us at the BEARS Lakeside with the Ducati crew – It was a rock and roll time with a measure of success.

I also recall your very generous assistance with my ancient bevel – 1975 900SS project.

Congratulations on 30 years I believe North Coast V twins has made a valuable contribution to the Ducati marque.

Beats working on fridges!

All the best to the team.”

I celebrated 10 years at V-twins in October 2018 and I got the job there shortly after arriving in Australia from the UK. I approached them looking for work in the Coffs area and the then Service Manager Wayne Graham interviewed me and referred me to Ashley and they gave me a start as a mechanic.

I was a customer of North Coast Ducati before it became North Coast V-twins with addition of the Harley-Davidson Brand . On Friday nights afterwork customers and Ash would work out where we were riding that weekend.

“Bought my FLSTFB (Fatboy) from V-Twins in December, 2011. I’ve met so many new faces in so many new places while putting around 80,000ks on the clock. It’s been the ride of my life!”

On the road – in company

Givíng up smoking helped cover the cost off my Fatboy in 2011. This is a pic of the $15,000 part payment I made – just ask Ash all about it!

“Congratulations to Beato and the team at NCVT for 30 years of a successful business.

The photo of the CVO was at Phillip Island when we were there for the Island Classic, some rude person by the name of Mal thought that Buddha and I had a likely resemblance… grrr smart arse 🙂

I got a non-repairable flat rear tire out in the sticks east of Albury, we were riding back from the classic and I had to get the Albury dealer to come pick up the bike in a van.  Beato told the others to ride on and he stayed with me well into the night until he was sure everything was arranged and then leaving the rest of the crew he rode to Albury to be with me and arrange a new tyre the next day (which was also a public holiday) and getting a speeding ticket on the way! If that’s not great customer service I don’t know what is.”

Cheers, Dougy

“I have been a customer at NCVT’S since the late 80’s. I remember stopping on my way back to Sydney for a helicoil repair to my 83 Hailwood. They had a new 851 tricolour on display. Brad Wiseman did the job and I met Ashley for the first time. You know when you click with someone and that’s what happens when anyone meets Ashley, he has a passion that is contagious. I know he has a lot of friends through the shop, but I consider myself a true friend after years of association. I have been a customer for 30 years, purchased 8 bikes and feel very comfortable whenever I walk into the shop. The staff are fanatastic, they have some of the most talented tech’s both Ducati and Harley Davidson in Australia. I wish them all the best for the future. Cheers, Dougy”
