RACERS EDGE PERFORMANCE SIZZLES IN DARWIN

Home > News, Events & Racing > Racing

Racers Edge Performance Suzuki have cemented a top three position in the 2013 QBE Australian Superbike Privateers Championship and moved into position to challenge for the title at the season finale after a consistent penultimate round held at Darwin’s Hidden Valley Circuit over the weekend 13-15 September.

As expected, Darwin turned on the heat – in more ways than one – in the sixth round of the 2013 Championship with the Racers Edge Performance Team closing the gap to the privateer championship lead to twenty one points with only the final round at PhillipIsland remaining.

Beau Beaton rode the Suzuki GSX-R 1000 to two seventh place finishes in the seventeen lap race’s around the technical layout that also boasts the longest straight of the circuit’s visited in the ASBK championship.

With top speeds approaching the 300kp/h mark, and with front end confidence at a premium in the tight technical sections of the track, the team worked hard in qualifying to fine tune the base setup of the Racers Edge Performance Suzuki to deal with the many unique challenges of the circuit.

Practice and qualifying went well for the team with Beau qualifying on the second row of the grid, Beau showing great consistency with his Superpole laps, all four within .04 of a second.

Race one saw Beau get a good start and dice with fellow privateers Linden Magee and Glenn Scott for the first few laps, moving to seventh on lap three and then sixth on lap sixth. The battle was intense with many overtaking manoeuvres, Beau dropping back to eighth on lap eight and then back up to seventh the following lap, eventually finishing in seventh place. Unfortunately any attempt to put a move on Magee for sixth was thwarted by back markers in the dying stages.

Race two saw another titanic struggle, Beau made up a position off the line and despite being close to Magee the entire race was unable to make a pass stick, another seventh place finish the final result.

The weekends strong results sees the gap from Beau in third place to the championship lead decrease by a huge eighteen points to twenty one, with only one round remaining. Importantly the gap to fourth place also increased and now stands at twenty seven points.

“We started off here with good pace, we had a good base setting from Eastern Creek” said Team Racers Edge Performance rider Beau Beaton. “I had a little spill on Friday trying a different setting., but we found a good setting that worked and allowed me to run a good consistent pace and that allowed me to take away good points in the privateer championship. I felt a little more confident in the first race, the second race it was hotter and the tyres went off a little quicker. Still, second place in the privateers is good and now we move on to PhillipIsland. As always a big thanks to Greg, Darryl, and Dale who helped out at this round, they worked really hard over the weekend.

“We were really happy with the performance of both Beau and the bike this weekend” Team Manager Greg Maher enthused. “Those BMW HP4’s are supposed to be a pretty impressive thing and our bike was able to stay with it driving out of corners and quite easily on the long straight, approaching 300kp/h. Beau rode sensibly, we had a little off but that happens, but the bike was handling well and is fast – real fast. We have a good base setup now and we can arrive at any circuit and know we are close to 100% right. On the podium for the round again is a good thing and closer to the championship lead also, so I’d have to say it’s been a good weekend for us, all in all it’s been pretty sweet. Also I must pass on a big thanks to Dale McMartin for coming out to help, his assistance over the weekend to help Darryl and I was invaluable. Now we move on to PhillipIsland, we’re in a good position and we’ll see what happens”.

The Racers Edge Performance Suzuki Team would like to thank its long time sponsors, as without them it is impossible to go racing; Suzuki, Vern Graham Suzuki, North Coast V-Twins, Phil Tainton Racing, Link International, Motul, RK Chains, Performance Friction Brakes and Quick Lap Performance.
